When is packet pickup?
Friday, September 12th: 4:00pm-7:00pm @HIghline Lake State park

Can I get a refund or defer to 2026?
No refunds. Deferals must be requested by 9/5.

What are the distances for each race?
olympic road: 15ooM swim, 40k bike, 10k run
Sprint road: 750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run
off-road sprint: 750m swim, 23k bike, 5k run

is there a water station on course?
Yes, the run course will have one water station located approximately 1.5miles in. sprint distance will pass twice and olympic distance will pass four times.

Is there a relay race?
yes, teams of 2-3 may enter the relay race in any distance. each member will tag their teammate while in the transition zone.
​
where is the transition zone?
the transition zone is located in the grass area above the swim beach and below the parking lot through the east entrance.
​
what is the schedule for the weekend?
Saturday, September 13th

are bike racks assigned?
no, transition area is first come first serve. on Sunday there will be a collegiate only section.

what will the water temperature be? Can i wear a wetsuit?
water temperature is expected to be mid 62-68 degrees. wetsuits are legal.

where and when do i get my chip and body markings?
chip pickup and body marking must be done at least 15 minutes prior to race start at the registration table.

Are people allowed to spectate?
Yes, spectators are allowed. all spectators should enter through the west entrance and walk over to race start or along the course.

What will be available post race?
bagels, bananas, light snacks, and water will be available at the finish area after the race.​​​​​​​
​
is camping still available?
No, the 2025 camping is sold out. if you already paid for camping, you should have received a confirmation email with check-in instructions. if you haven't received this email, please email info@grandjunctionsports.org.

General Conduct
-
Athletes are responsible for their own safety, the safety of their own equipment, and to be considerate of the safety of others

Obey instructions from event officials and law enforcement

Obey traffic regulations​​

Sportsmanship
-
Athletes must practice good sportsmanship at all times, and treat other athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators with respect and courtesy. Verbal and physical abuse of others is not acceptable or tolerated.

Course Direction
-
It is the athlete’s responsibility to read all supplied information provided in the event materials and to know and keep on the prescribed course. Athletes must complete the entire course as provided by event officials, including all segments and loops in the correct order

Unauthorized Assistance
-
No athlete shall accept assistance from any person other than event personnel, but such assistance is limited to providing nutrition, drinks, mechanical and medical assistance unless otherwise communicated by event officials.

No athlete shall be accompanied (paced) by any partner athlete or non-athlete on the course
-
-
Unauthorized Equipment
-
No headphones, headsets, or athlete music in any manner during the race is permitted
-
-
Obstruction and Impeding
-
Athletes may sportingly maintain their own space during all segments of the race. An athlete is entitled to any position on the course, provided they get to that position first and without contacting others. When taking a position, an athlete must allow reasonable space for others to make normal movements without making contact. Adequate space must be available before overtaking.

Swimming Conduct
-
Athletes must follow the prescribed swim course
-
Athletes may maintain their own space in the water provided they are swimming in a relatively straight manner towards buoys or markers
-

Cycling Conduct
-
An athlete is not permitted to make any forward progress without the bicycle and all its component parts. If a bicycle is rendered inoperable, an athlete may proceed on the cycling course while pushing or carrying the bicycle, so long as the bicycle is pushed or carried in a manner not obstruct or impede the progress of other athletes.

All athletes must obey all traffic laws while on the cycling course unless otherwise specifically directed by an event official with actual authority. In no case can a cyclist cross a solid or dashed yellow line separating opposite-direction traffic lanes unless specifically directed to by an event official or law enforcement

Athletes must complete the entire cycling course as prescribed by event officials
-
Dangerous riding may result in a penalty. This includes but is not limited to:
-
Blocking that impedes the progress of another athlete or makes contact with another athlete.​
-
An athlete riding recklessly to threaten the safety of herself/himself, another athlete, event official, volunteer, or motorist. Any cyclist who deliberately targets another athlete or recklessly presents a danger to any athlete​
-

If passed by another athlete, you must maintain three bike lengths behind athlete unless making attempt to pass. Pass attempts must be completed in a reasonably quick window without creating an unsafe situation such as an upcoming turn or for other riders
- Helmets
- Bicycle helmets must be worn properly in all activities when the athlete is on his or her bicycle, before, during, and after the race.​
- No drafting is allowed​

Running Conduct

An athlete cannot be accompanied on or alongside the running course by any pacemakers or other non-competing persons.

Finish Area Conduct:
-
An athlete will be judged as finished through timing software and the RFID chip included in their bib.

Race bibs must be displayed in the front of athlete’s body

Transition Conduct
-
Equipment Placement
-
Each registered athlete may only check one bicycle into transition. All athletes must rack their bicycle before the transition area closes.
-
Only equipment to be used in the race should be placed in the transition area. Chairs are not permitted
-
An athlete must not interfere with another athlete’s equipment and keep their equipment to reasonable space.
-

General Conduct
-
Athletes must not impede the progress of other athletes in the transition area by stopping in the flow zones of the transition area.
-

Bicycle Mounting and Dismounting
-
Cycling is not permitted inside the transition area
-
While in the transition area (before the designated mount line and after the designated dismount line) the bicycle can be pushed only by the athlete’s hands.
-
Athletes must mount their bicycles after the designated mount line by having one complete foot contact with the ground after the mount line. Athletes who cycle out of transition rather than mounting beyond the mount line will be disqualified.
-
Athletes must dismount their bicycles before the designated dismount line by having one complete foot contact with the ground before the dismount line. Athletes who make no attempt to dismount at the dismount line, causing them to cycle in the transition area, will be disqualified. Penalty for improper dismount violation: Time Penalty. Penalty for riding a bicycle into and through the transition zone is immediate disqualification.

Additional Guidelines

General
-
Failure to comply with event rules may result in an athlete being disqualified or banned from Grand Junction Sports Commission events.
-
If an event official deems than an unfair advantage has been gained or if an unsafe situation has been created through an infringement not listed in these rules, the event official is allowed to assess a penalty (Warning or Disqualification) commensurate with the severity of the infraction, even if the infringement is not listed in these Rules.
