Grand Junction Sports Commission Named Sports ETA Sports Commission of the Year

LAS VEGAS (April 21, 2026) – Sports ETA, the national trade association for the sports events and tourism industry, today announced the Grand Junction Sports Commission as the recipient of the Sports Commission of the Year Award (Under 500,000 population) at the 2026 Sports ETA Symposium here. The Sports ETA Member Awards are presented by Team Travel Source.

The award recognizes the Grand Junction Sports Commission’s strong performance in driving sports tourism and community impact. In 2025, the organization generated $62 million in economic impact, increased event participation by more than 34%, and successfully hosted and supported a wide range of local and national sporting events.

Judges noted the organization’s success in its ability to both produce and support a diverse portfolio of events, including cycling races, running events, triathlons, baseball tournaments, and nationally recognized competitions. Signature events such as the Rides & Vibes MTB and Music Festival and the Rim Rock Marathon have driven participation growth and economic impact, while longstanding events like the NJCAA Division I Junior College World Series, which draws more than 125,000 attendees annually, continue to anchor the region’s sports tourism economy.

The Grand Junction Sports Commission also demonstrated national leadership by successfully recruiting and hosting major events such as the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships and the World Wake Association National Championships, reinforcing its position as a premier destination for outdoor and endurance sports.

“Grand Junction Sports Commission represents the very best of what sports tourism can achieve,” said John David, President & CEO of Sports ETA. “Their ability to deliver measurable economic impact, recruit high-profile national events, and create a welcoming, community-driven experience sets a national standard for destinations of any size.”

“We are incredibly honored to be recognized by Sports ETA as Sports Commission of the Year,” said Ben Snyder, Executive Director of the Grand Junction Sports Commission. “This award reflects the passion of our team and the strength of our partnerships as we continue to position Grand Junction as a premier sports destination.”
